We the people is the favorite at the last jewel of the Triple Crown – Belmont Stakes that will take place in Elmont, New York on Saturday. The race will also feature Kentucky derby winner Rich Strike, who skipped May’s Preakness Stakes.

The race at Belmont Park starts at 6:44 PM EDT.

Belmont is a eight-horse race. The horses will complete for a $1.5 million prize purse, with $800,000 for the winner.

“I don’t look at the odds, but it makes sense,” We the People trainer Rodolphe Brisset said when asked Tuesday about his horse being the favorite.

All you need to know about We the People

We the People is a three-year-old colt owned by Bobby Flay of WinStar Farm LLC. Bred in Kentucky by Henly Farms, the horse is trained by Rodolphe Brisset.

We the People made its racing debut in 2022. In four starts, it has come first for three times, earning $230,250, as per equibase.com. The colt is coming off a win in the Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park on May 15.

Rain is in the forcast for Belmont Stakes too. However, We the People’s trainer Rodolphe Brisset, said he “wouldn’t be upset”.

We the People opened at 2-1 odds. Kentucky champion Rich Strike was at 7-2 odds and drew the fourth post position in a field.

A Triple Crown win is not a possibility this season. Rich Strike, after stunning the betters at Kentucky, opted out of the Preakness Stakes.
