Yasim had a successful Asia Cup qualifying tournament, finishing with scores of 26, 46, and 58. Hong Kong competed against Singapore, Kuwait, and UAE, winning all their qualifying matches. He also took three wickets in three games, with the best being 2/11 against Kuwait. He will represent Hong Kong in this year’s Asia Cup in UAE.

Who is Yasim Murtaza?

Yasim Murtaza is a Pakistani cricketer who plays for Hong Kong in international cricket. Murtaza was born in Sialkot, Pakistan on December 4, 1990. He is Hong Kong’s opening batter. Murtaza is a left-handed batter as well as an orthodox slow left-arm bowler.

He previously played first-class cricket for the Rawalpindi cricket team. Murtaza represented Pakistan in 74 first-class, 59 List A, and 33 Twenty20 matches between 2006 and 2016.

Murtaza qualified to play for the Hong Kong cricket team after completing a period of residency in the country. He was named to Hong Kong’s squad for the 2022 Uganda Cricket World Cup Challenge League B tournament in May 2022. On July 11, 2022, he made his T20I debut for Hong Kong against Uganda, scoring just three runs off five bowls. 

So far in the eight T20 internationals that the player has played in, he has scored a grand total of 151 runs at a mere average of 21.57 and a strike rate of 104.86. The Pakistan-born cricketer scored one international T20 half century that came against the United Arab Emirates on 24th August in a must-win match, that secured Hong Kong’s place in this year’s edition of the Asia Cup.

He scored 58 runs off 43 bowls in that match. Apart from this, he has also taken 7 wickets with his bowling at an economy of 5.82 and the best bowling in an innings performance of 3 for 19 against Singapore on July 15th, 2022.

Murtaza has featured in 74 First class matches for Pakistan where he has scored 2914 runs at an average of 26.73 and scored one century to go with 17 half-centuries.

He also bowled in the first class matches and has taken 123 wickets at an economy of 3.08 and the best bowling figures of 5/43.
