Adrian Dingle, a former defensive end for the San Diego Chargers and a star at Clemson, passed away on Tuesday. He was 45.

The news of Dingle’s passing was confirmed in a statement released by Clemson University on Thursday. The cause of death was not made public right away.

Who was Adrian Dingle?

Born on June 25, 1977, Adrian Kennell Dingle was an American football player who played defensive tackle for the National Football League. He was a member of the San Diego Chargers for five seasons (2000–2005).

Dingle attended Holly Hill, South Carolina’s Roberts High School. Later, he enrolled at Clemson University, where his final year saw him set a single-season record with 10.5 sacks. His 45 tackles for loss are sixth all-time, and his 23 career sacks are third best in school history.

In the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft, Dingle was taken. His injury prevented him from playing in 1999. During the 2003 season, he started 15 of the 16 games and recorded 37 tackles and 6 sacks. With 78 tackles, 14.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception to his name, he had a successful career.

He was Vontrell Jamison’s cousin, a former defensive end with the Dallas Cowboys.

Dingle was a player at Clemson from 1995 to 1998, and after his first season, he was the starting defensive end. He presently ranks sixth in school history with 23 sacks after recording 10.5 sacks as a senior, a single-season record at the time.

Dingle was selected by the Chargers in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft; however, an injury prevented him from playing in his rookie campaign.

Dingle spent his final five seasons of football in San Diego, where his 94 tackles, 14.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception helped him to a career high.

Dingle died on November 8, 2022, at the age of 45, in Holly Hill, South Carolina.
