Leandro Lo was a multiple-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion. From 2011 to 2013, he had an undefeated winning streak at the Copa Podio. On August 7, 2022, Lo was shot in the head at a concert in Sao Paulo, Brazil, following a confrontation with an off-duty military police officer. Lo died on the way to the hospital.

Lo was born on May 11, 1989 at Sao Paolu, Brazil. He received his black belt under Cicero Costha at the Cicero Costha Academy in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He founded the New School “NS” Brotherhood squad in 2015. He has also triumphed in BJJ competitions, such as the Pan American Games, the World Cup, and the Brazilian National Jiu-Jitsu Championships. 

The 33-year-old won eight IBJJF World Championships since 2012, was one of the greatest jiu-jitsu athletes of all time. In California earlier this year, he earned the gold medal in the light heavyweight division.

The Brazilian grappler also holds victories over notable opponents like Gordon Ryan, Andre Galvao, Gilbert Burns, Roberto Satoshi, Augusto Mendes, Felipe Pena, Alan Belcher, Davi Ramos, and Dillon Danis. Hehas won multiple IBJJF titles in the Pans (eight), European Open (two), Brazilian Nationals (four), and seven Copa Podio grand prix titles across various weight classes.

The Brazilian superstar died after a shooting at a concert in São Paulo, BR on August, 7, 2022. The 33-year-old according to the police, got into a fight on the Sunday morning. Tensions increased after the suspect, police officer Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo, reportedly took a bottle from Lo’s table at the venue. Velozo allegedly pulled out a revolver and shot Lo in the head following a brief altercation. The ju-jitsu great was transported to a local hospital, but he passed away only a few hours later.
