Nigerian boxer Miracle Amaeze died on Saturday following a sparring session. He was 18 years old. African boxing reporters Fight Gist first broke the news on social media.

Amaeze had a perfect 2-0-0 record in his professional career. He was tipped as an up and coming boxer from Nigeria.

Citing state media reports, The Sun said that Miracle Amaeze lost consciousness after two knockdowns during training in Lagos. He was given first aid treatment and rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

 Fight Gist tweeted: “It’s with great pain we announce the passing away of the Nigerian light-heavyweight boxer MIRACLE “Active boxer” AMAEZE (2-0-0-2KOS).

“He passed away yesterday, July 23rd, 2022. Miracle lost consciousness after two knockdowns during a sparring session yesterday morning in Festac Town, Lagos.

“He was given first aid treatment before being rushed to the hospital for full treatment. Unfortunately, he gave up the ghost at the hospital yesterday evening.

“I express my sincerest sympathy to the family members, friends, and loved ones. Rest in peace, Champ.”

Amaeze had defeated Friday Obasi earlier this month in a first-round knockout at Yucateco Arena in Ikorodu. He had beaten Idowu Babatunde at the same venue.

Miracle Amaeze made his debut on May 5 this year. He participated in the light heavy category. 

“Words fail me.. but Miracle Amaeze (2-0, 2KOs) is gone too soon. Head injury from sparring on Saturday. RIP Champ,” sports journalist RALPH Chidozie George tweeted.

In April this year, Ali Tazeem, teenage boxing star, was killed in a car crash in Wolverhampton. He was 18. A month earlier, Indonesian icon Hero Tito who was knocked unconscious and failed to recover.
