Former New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers tight end Russ Francis has died at the of 70. 

The Lake Placid News reports that on Sunday afternoon, Francis and Richard McSpadden, the vice president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, flew out of Lake Placid Airport in a Cessna 177 Cardinal. The plane ran into trouble shortly after takeoff, and at 4:09 p.m. it tragically crashed near the end of the runway.
