Olympic sprinter from the Bahamas, Shavez Hart, was fatally shot outside a nightclub after he allegedly tried to break up a quarrel.  The fatal gunshot, according to the Royal Bahamas Police, took place at Mount Hope, North Abaco, at around 2 am.

A brawl between a group of males reportedly broke out in the parking lot. Hart was shot in the chest by one of the participants who had reportedly briefly left the area before returning with a gun in hand. The Olympic athlete was brought to the Marsh Harbour Clinic, where doctors declared him dead.

Who was Shavez Hart?

Shavez Hart was an athlete from Coopers Town, Abaco Islands. He represented Bahamas in the 2016 Rio Olympics.He was born on September 6, 1972 in the Abaco Islands, Bahamas.

Hart most participated in the 100- and 200-meter sprints. With a personal best time for the 100 metres of 10.10 seconds, he is the second fastest sprinter from the Bahamas after Derrick Atkins in history. He is the fourth-fastest Bahamian of all time in the 200-meter personal best of 20.23.

At the 2011 CARIFTA Games, he won the bronze medal in the 100-meter individual and relay events. He made a false start in the 100-meter final at the 2011 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, although he still finished third with the Bahamian relay team. He went to college at Texas A&M University.

Before transferring to Texas, he competed for South Plains College alongside fellow countryman Trevorvano Mackey, capturing a sprint double at the 2012 National Junior College Championships. In the 4100 metre relay in Morelia, Mexico, they both worked together to beat the Bahamian national record, winning the gold medal at the 2013 CAC Championships in the process.
