Stanley Wilson Jr., former Detroit Lions cornerback, died after collapsing at a mental hospital in Los Angeles earlier this month, TMZ Sports reported on Wednesday. He was 40.
The former NFL player was arrested in August for breaking into a Hollywood Hills mansion and bathing in an outdoor fountain. Prosecutors declared that he was incompetent to stand trial. He was then transferred from county jail to the Metropolitan State Hospital in Los Angeles County.
TMZ, quoting sources, said that no foul play is suspected. However, the official cause of death has not been released yet.

Stanley Wilson Jr., the son of the late Stanley Wilson Sr., a former running back for the Cincinnati Bengals, grew up in Carson, California, and went to Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance.
In 2000, Wilson enrolled at Stanford University after being recruited by Tyrone Willingham. Wilson played four seasons for the Stanford Cardinal football team from 2001 to 2004, the latter three under head coach Walt Harris, after redshirting his true freshman season.
With 32 tackles (27 solo) and two interceptions as a sophomore in 2002, Wilson established himself as a reliable starter. Wilson recorded 27 tackles, six passes intercepted, and six passes defended in 2003. With 54 tackles (41 solo and 2.5 for loss), five passes defended, one interception returned for 51 yards, and 54 tackles overall as a senior in 2004, Wilson set career highs. He was also named honourable mention All-Pac-10 for his performance.
Wilson was selected by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft (72nd overall). Wilson played for the Lions the entire time he was in the NFL, from 2005 to 2007. Wilson had 86 tackles (63 solo) in 32 games (nine starts) for the NFL, along with eight passes deflected and one forced fumble. Wilson was put on injured reserve on November 28, 2007, because of a knee injury.
On April 11, 2008, Wilson was re-signed by the Lions for a single season.
In Portland, Oregon, on June 22, 2016, an elderly homeowner shot Wilson after he tried to break into his house while unclothed. He was admitted to the hospital, treated for his wounds, and then accused with trying to break in.
