Tori Bowie, an Olympic gold medalist US track star died on Tuesday in Florida at 32. Her cause of death was not revealed.

A statement was released by her management team Wednesday morning confirming the news of death where they said that they were devastated by her passing. “We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter, and sister,” the sports agency said. “Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends.”

Who was Tori Bowie?

Tori Bowie was born on August 27, 1990, in Sand Hill, Rankin County, Mississippi. She attended Pisgah High School and began competing in track for the school. 

She and her sister were put up for foster care and was later legally adopted by her grandparents Bobbie Dennis Smith and Dennis Smith.

Before her winning streak at the Olympics, Bowie was an exceptional track star in college at the University of Southern Mississippi. In both indoor and outdoor track, she became a two-time NCAA long jump champion.

Bowie won three Olympic medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. This includes one gold as a member of the women’s 4×100 meter relay team. She also earned a silver in the 100-meter dash and a bronze in the 200-meter dash.

The year after the Rio Olympics, she aced the 100-meter dash at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, setting a record time of 10.85 seconds, becoming the world’s fastest woman.

Tori was also a model for Valentino and also posed for ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue.
