The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has got an arrest warrant for Jalen Carter for his involvement in a fatal car accident in January that led to the death of a University of Georgia football player and a recruiting staffer.
According to a press statement issued by the police on Wednesday, Carter is being charged with reckless driving and racing, both of which were misdemeanors and part of the investigation into the crash.
Who were Chandler LeCroy and Devin Willock?
Chandler LeCroy and Devin Willock died in an early morning crash on January 15, just hours after the Bulldogs’ parade to celebrate their second consecutive national championship.
LeCroy, 24, was the recruiting staffer. Willock, 20 was an offensive lineman at the University of Georgia. He also won two national titles with the Bulldogs. Just hours before his death, Willock was at a Texas Roadhouse restaurant when he met a star-struck fan 7-year-old Camdyn Gonzales.

Carter and LeCroy were engaging in race-like driving behavior before the crash, according to the police. They were observed changing lanes and driving on opposite sides of the road leading up to the collision.
LeCroy’s car was going at a speed of 104 miles per hour, which is more than twice the restricted speed limit of 40 mph. LeCroy was driving the SUV, and another player and another employee were also in the vehicle and injured in the crash.

Reportedly, LeCroy has a blood alcohol concentration of .197 at the time of the accident, which is significantly higher than the legal limit of .08 in the state of Georgia. Offensive lineman Warren McLendon suffered minor injuries but staffer Victoria Bowles was hospitalized with multiple serious injuries.

The fatal crash took place on January 15 at around 2.45 am, on a road located south of Athens, Georgia, where the University of Georgia is situated.
