Matt Gay, kicker for the Los Angeles Rams, drilled a 55-yard field goal against the Green Bay Packers before Aaron Rodgers and co scored the first touchdown of the game. Playing at their home, Lambeau Field, Packers led 10-6 at half-time.

Green Bay had a 10-3 lead when Matt Gay hit a 55-yarder on the icy night, with temperature at 16° F (-9° C). Fans and broadcasters praised the kicker for succeeding on the attempt.

“Matt Gay just made the third field goal ever of 50+ yards in under 25 degree temperatures at Lambeau Field,” a Twitter user said. 

“Matt gay the god,” a second one added. 

“How many kickers can nail a 55 yarder in subzero Temps? Impressive Matt Gay,” a third one tweeted.

Gay’s field goal was the longest at the Lambeau Field with temperature under 25 degrees.

The Rans kicker also tied for 3rd longest FG in Lambeau history regardless of the temperature.

The Lambeau field is the oldest continually operating football stadium in the USA. It is nicknamed the Frozen Tundra for hosting chilled football matches through its 65-year history.

Gay scored the first points for the Rams in the MNF game. He is now 21-for-23 on the year. His only misses have been from more than 50 yards. He has made all 23 of his extra-point tries.

The LA star’s record over the last two years has been brilliant/ He is 53 for 57 on field goal attempts and has only missed six field goals since joining the Rams in 2020. He missed eight of his first 35 field goal attempts with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
