Odell Beckham Jr. was reportedly removed from an American Airlines flight in Miami only days before his scheduled visit with the New York Giants. The free agent is reported to have refused to fasten his seat belt despite repeated warnings by flight attendants. He was also apparently going in and out of consciousness.

The 30-year-old also refused to see himself outside the plane. As a result of this fiasco, other passengers were asked to get off the aircraft, which caused the flight to get delayed. The incident was first reported by Fox Sports 960’s Andy Slater and NJ.com’s Darryl Slater.

After Beckham’s refusal to get off the plane, the flight crew had to call fire rescue and the Miami Dade Police department. Once the police arrived and asked Beckham to deboard, the latter did so without any further incidents.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL network later released a statement by the Miami Dade Police Department that confirmed the incident. The statement read, “At approximately 9:30 a.m., officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department, were dispatched to a medical emergency at an American Airlines flight. The flight crew was concerned for a passenger (Mr. Odell Beckham), as they tried to wake him to fasten his seat belt, he appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness, prior to their departure.”

“Fearing that Mr. Beckham was seriously ill, and that his condition would worsen through the expected 5 hour flight, the attendants called for police and fire rescue. Upon the officers arrival, the flight crew asked Mr. Beckham several times to exit the aircraft, which he refused. The aircraft was deplaned, at which time Mr. Beckham was asked by the officers to exit the plane, and did so without incident”, the press release further added.

The reason behind Beckham coming in and out of consciousness has not been revealed yet. He was recently in the news for suing Nike for $20 million, claiming that the sportwear brand did not “honor its commitments” towards him.
