An epic boxing matchup is in the works between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia. The boxers are set to square off inside the ring in 2023 in Las Vegas. This match will see one of them lose their undefeated status since both have not been conquered by any opponent thus far.

However, one red light that hangs above the upcoming bout is the December 12 court trial that Davis will have to stand. He is accused in a 2020 hit-and-run case, and if found guilty and sent behind bars, the boxer might not be able to treat boxing fans with this dream match.

Davis is facing a total of 14 charges in the incident, and has also been accused of fleeing the site of the accident. A pregnant woman called Jyair Smith was injured in the incident. She later told the Baltimore Sun that the champion boxer “looked me in the eyes, and he never came over to help.”

There were three other people who were victims of the incident. All three have accepted a plea deal by Davis, and settled their cases. However, Smith is the one who has taken up a civil case against Davis.

This is not the only criminal charge against the Baltimore native boxer. He “was observed battering his former girlfriend” in February 2022, according to the Coral Gables police in Florida.

According to TMZ, if Davis is found guilty in all of the charges, he can face upto seven years and 55 days in prison, which will see him spend the peak of his career behind bars.

Showtime will produce and broadcast the Davis-Garcia match, according to insiders who spoke to ESPN. Garcia’s fights are streamed on DAZN, which will also sell the PPV on its platform.
