Willy Adames, Milwaukee Brewers’ shortstop, was struck by a foul ball in the dugout in Friday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants.
Adames’ teammate Brian Anderson was batting in the bottom of the second inning when he hit a line drive that struck Adames’ head. The game was stopped and the training staff checked on the shortstop.
Adames eventually walked out of the dugout and headed toward the clubhouse. Brice Turang replaced him at the top of the third. Anderson was visibly emotional.
The Brewers announced that the player has been taken to the hospital. He entered the game on Friday with a .205/.289/.384 batting line and nine home runs on the season. Milwaukee acquired Adames in a trade that sent Drew Rasmussen to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021. The 27-year-old will become a free agent after the 2024 season.

“Taken to hospital. No fractures. Alert and responsive. Keeping him at hospital overnight for monitoring purposes. Anticipates him being released in the morning,” Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said.
San Francisco won the game 15-1.

Several social media users reacted to Willy Adames getting hurt.
“nobody should be booing Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta or any of the players right now. we just had something traumatic happen to one of our players Willy Adames. tbh i don’t care if we lose. all we need to know is if willy is going to be ok 🙏🏽🥰❤️,” a Twitter user said.
“Willy Adames has been alert and responsive the whole night, Counsell says. No fractures. He will remain in the hospital tonight for monitoring but they anticipate he will be released tomorrow. It will be an IL with a concussion, but all things considered could have been worse,” another one tweeted an update.

“Willy Adames was able to walk off with head athletic trainer Scott Barringer and team doctors. His teammates circled around him before he got up. Brian Anderson very emotional on the field after the foul ball,” a third one said on Twitter.
If Adames injury is ruled a concussion, he will be back soon. The team has already said that he has not suffered any fractures. The Milwaukee Brewers will face the Giants again on Saturday at the American Family Field.
