India have won 12 consecutive T20Is. They take on South Africa to make it 13-0 - a feat no team in the sport has ever managed to achieve. There is no Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul, who was injured on the eve of the first game, in the team. Local boy Rishabh Pant will take charge with Hardik Pandya as his deputy.
Chasing the elusive feat, India will face Temba Bavuma's South Africa in the first match of the five-game T20I series on Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.
KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav were ruled out of the South Africa series with injuries. The stand-in skipper sustained a right groin injury wile the chinaman was hit on his right hand while batting in the nets, the BCCI informed. The Indian cricket board is yet to name replacements for both players.
South Africa, on the other hand, come to the series packed with their top-stars, except Faf du Plessis and Dewald Brevis.Bavuma will have to chose amongst the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and fit-again Anrich Nortje in the pace department. Allrounders Dwaine Pretorius and Wayne Parnell have also been added to the mix. The likes of David Miller and Quinton de Kock, who were in great form during the recently concluded IPL 2022, will have the spotlight on them.
India go against South Africa with the likes of Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik strengthening their line-up. The two impressed the selectors in IPL 2022 and will need to stay consistent for a World Cup spot. The pace department have young guns in Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel.
