India finish T20 World Cup on a high, thrash Namibia
- India beat Namibia by 9 wickets
- Rohit Sharma smashed 56 runs off 37 balls with seven fours and two sixes
- Ravindra Jadeja was named the player of the match
India finished their T20 World Cup campaign with a nine-wicket win over Namibia on Monday at the Dubai International Stadium. The team's vice-captain Rohit Sharma starred with a half-century as the Men in Blue chased a 133-run target with 28 balls to spare.
Rohit Sharma smashed 56 runs off 37 balls with seven fours and two sixes and got support from another fellow opener KL Rahul (54 not out off 36 balls). Sharma is the frontrunner to become India's next captain as Virat Kohli steps down from the post.
In the first innings, the Indian bowling line-up caught the Namibians by the scruff of their necks with spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, snaring six wickets between them. Suryakumar Yadav (25 not out off 19 balls) showed his 360 degree hitting skills to end a rather disappointing tournament on a sweet note.
Ravindra Jadeja was named the player of the match.
"As a bowler I enjoyed the game, the ball was dry and that is always good for a spinner. Some turned and some didn't so the batsman had to keep guessing. I've been playing with Ashwin for 10 years, he's played well in the IPL with the white ball, and he's brought that here. Virat has been a wonderful captain, and I've played with him for 10-12 years. He is always positive and aggressive and that's what you want as a player. Bharat Arun, Mr Sridhar, and Shastri bhai were really good to support us, and whoever comes next, we'll look to continue the momentum," the all-rounder said.
Already ousted from the tournament after losing to Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two games, India looked relaxed and the the Namibians were all at sea as they are not used to playing world class slow bowling operators of this calibre.
