Will be interesting to see what happens in NZ vs Afg match: Virat Kohli after Scotland win
- A dominating performance, something that we were striving to do again, Virat Kohli said
- India improved its NRR, keeping their semis hopes alive
- India next play Namibia on November 7
The Indian cricket team outclassed an inexperienced Scotland side in an ICC men's T20 World Cup Super 12 group 2 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. As India recorded a big 8-wicket victory, they improved their net run rate and are now placed above Afghanistan in the points table. With this win, India have done enough to keep the slim chances of them qualifying for the semis open.
Now, it all depends on Afghanistan. If the Mohammad Nabi-led team manages to cause an upset then India's chances of proceeding further in the tournament increase. But if New Zealand manages to outperform its opposition, it is bad news for India.
"A dominating performance, something that we were striving to do again. Now it will be interesting to see what happens on 7th (November)," Indian captain Virat Kohli said of the New Zealand vs Afghanistan ties.
As far as the match is concerned, Kohli didn't have a lot to say about India's outing as they did what they do best - record a dominant win.
"Don't want to say a lot about today's performance, we know what we can do. Also tells you how important the toss can be at this venue. We wanted to get them under 110-120 max, that was the mindset we went in with. The bowlers were excellent, and then KL and Rohit did really well," Kohli said about their plan.
"We spoke about the 8-10 over bracket before the start, didn't want to really go too hard because if you lose wickets, then an extra 20 balls could cost. We thought that if they play naturally, runs will come quickly," he added.
Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami returned with three wickets apiece as they ran through the batting line-up. While Jadeja registered his career-best bowling figures of 3/15 in 4 fours, Shami returned with identical figures in 3 overs.
Jadeja was adjudged man of the match for his performance that gave India an upper hand early in the match.
India now play Namibia next on November 7.
