An
intelligent quadrupled robot: Everything about the latest Xiaomi debut is here

At its huge
launch event yesterday, Xiaomi revealed a new surprise product. Apart from the
much-anticipated Mi Mix 4 and other goods, the company unveiled the CyberDog, a
four-legged robot of its own design. The CyberDog is a bio-inspired quadruped
robot that was kept a well guarded secret until its release. Here’s everything
you need to know about the new Xiaomi robot, including whether or not it can be
your pet.

Nvidia’s
Jetson Xavier NX AI Supercomputer for Embedded Edge Systems powers the
CyberDog, which is coupled with 128GB of SSD storage. This grants the robot a
21 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) for AI performance rating.

The Xiaomi
CyberDog has a multitude of cameras, sensors, and microphones that allow it to
identify and respond to things in its environment, a process known as spatial
perception. The CyberDog is said to be capable of perceiving as much as the
human eye.

AI cameras,
ultra-wide cameras, and a specialised Intel RealSense D450 depth module are
among the sensors implanted in the robot’s head. These sensors assist the robot
avoid accidents and enhance its navigation capabilities. SLAM mapping and
auto-tracking are also possible with the robot.

What is it
capable of?

The CyberDog
can walk, run and can also perform modern movements such as turning over to its
left and right, rolling, jumping, lean to it’s front, doing a backward
handspring and stand on its hind legs. Its top speed is recorded at 3.2m/s and
the CyberDog can lift upto 3kg of weight.

Xiaomi has
also put its XiaoAI system inside the CyberDog, which lets the mecha-pup direct
suitable smart home appliances such as TV, AC, Air purifier and Vacum Cleaner.

Functioning

The CyberDog
can be controlled through a smart phone app and voice control. As of now the
app can be installed in only few of Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones. These
smartphones are the Redmi K40 Gaming edition, Redmi K40, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi
10X Pro, Redmi 10X and Mi MIX 2S. Although, Xiaomi claims that many more
devices will have this feature in the near future.

On the other
hand, the CyberDog can also be controlled by a remote control which has to be
purchased separately, that is if you don’t want to purchase a Xiaomi phone for
the purpose of taking your dog to a stroll.

Prices and
accessibility

The Xiaomi CyberDog costs CNY 9999 (about Rs
1,14,700). It is now only accessible in China, and it is unclear whether the
brand would bring the product to other countries, such as India.
