Users, critics and other audiences are waiting with bated breath for the 2021 Apple Event to start. This is the second time that a major Apple event is being held online. The event will be broadcast live on its official handles from Apple Park, California. While a list of expected products launches – iPhone 13 series and Apple Watch Series 7 and AirPods 3 – have made their way out, it seems there is another tech that is standing in the shadows and will be unveiled at the event only to blow away people’s minds.

Apple car tech. Yes, you heard that right. It is expected that Apple Car tech will be unveiled at the Apple Event. However, only a handful of media outlets and leak experts have made a fleeting hint about its announcement.

Apple began working on “Project Titan” in 2014 as it employed around 1,000 car experts and engineers to develop an electric vehicle at a secret location near Cupertino headquarters.

Since it began, the Apple Car project has seen multiple leadership changes and also witnessed hundreds of employees being laid off. Currently, it is under John Giannandrea, Apple’s AI and machine learning chief.

In June 2017, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke publicly about Apple’s work on its car tech. “We’re focusing on autonomous systems. It’s a core technology that we view as very important. We sort of seeing it as the mother of all AI projects. It’s probably one of the most difficult AI projects actually to work on,” Tim Cook had said.

In another separate interview, lithium-ion battery pioneer and Nobel Prize winner Akira Yoshino said that Apple might just announce its EV initiative by 2021 end.

In a Reuters interview, he called out Apple as “the one to look out for.”

“The one to look out for is Apple. What will they do? I think they may announce something soon,” Yoshino had said. “And what kind of car would they announce? What kind of battery? They probably want to get in around 2025. If they do that, I think they have to announce something by the end of this year. That’s just my own personal hypothesis,” he added.
