Tesla CEO
Elon Musk tweeted Friday, “Try voice command ‘Open butthole’ on your Tesla” to
uncover another quirky feature of the unique car. The world’s richest man’s
tweet, as usual, made a wave through social media. Within just about five
minutes of his posting this, the tweet had been liked over 7,000 times and retweeted
more than 900 times.

Tesla cars,
unique in many ways, especially the auto-pilot feature, come with several ‘Easter
Eggs’ – surprising commands that do quirky things. There are more than 150
unofficial voice commands that work with Tesla cars.

What does ‘Open
your butthole’ command do?

The ‘Open
your butthole’ command works differently on different variants of Tesla cars.
The command is available for use even in older Tesla variants such as Model S
and Model 3. The most common purpose of the ‘Open your butthole’ command is to access
the car’s charging port. However, the same command may also trigger the trunk
of the car or the glove compartment to open instead.

While Musk’s
tweet brought attention to the quirk, the ‘Open your butthole’ Easter Egg has existed
on Tesla cars since April 2020, according to technology news website Gizmodo.
The feature, however, has found itself used in more cars of late.

The ‘Open
your butthole’ command is very similar to ‘Open your bunghole,’ another command
that opens the charging port of the car.

What are some
other Easter Eggs on Tesla cars?

Tesla cars
are full of Easter Eggs. One of particular interest is the Back to the Future
phone app. If one touches the battery icon inside the Tesla mobile app at the car
going 121 miles per hour, it launches the Back to the Future Easter Egg. A
pop-up message displays “Time Circuits Off” and “Be sure to reset your clock
for temporal displacement.”

Other voice
commands such as “Keep Tesla safe” or “Keep Summer Safe” are used to activate “Sentry”
mode on Tesla cars.
