Tesla’s release of the Cybertruck has been delayed multiple times ever since its scuffed reveal back in 2019.

Company co-founder Elon Musk recently took to Twitter, the very platform he’s trying to avoid buying, to announce that the electric vehicle would be waterproof. Musk said that the cybertruck would be able to cross rivers and seas.

“Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy,” Musk tweeted.

He followed up with another tweet shortly after, saying, “Needs be able to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel.”

Starbase is the spaceport, production and development facility where aerospace company SpaceX is testing its next-generation Starship rockets. It is located on the coast of Boca Chica in Cameron County, Texas. Initially, the place was supposed to act as the launch sites of the Falon9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles but that plan was scrapped.

The South Padre island is famous for its tourism, particularly college-going students on Spring Break. The island is connected to the mainland by a single bridge called the Queen Isabella Causeway. A trip from the Starbase facility to South Padre island is an hour-long car ride with a distance of roughly 39 miles.

One would imagine the world’s richest man wants to avoid the risk of getting stuck in traffic or he just wants to behave like a billionaire. It’s hard to tell with Musk.
