Instagram users will soon be able to message their friends on Messenger, without needing a Facebook account, as the tech giant is planning to unify messaging systems across all of its platforms.

“Messaging has come a long way since we first brought it to Instagram. We’ve been exploring how messaging should evolve as we grow,” Facebook said in a blog post announcing the new feature.

Facebook said that it considered the new feature as most people are communicating in private spaces now more than ever. According to the company, users will now have access to “ the best messaging experience, no matter which app you use.”

Facebook will also be adding more than 10 new features including selfie stickers- a unique hybrid of Boomerang, emojis, and selfies – as a new way to react to conversations. Other features include- ‘Watch Together’ that lets you watch trending videos with friends on IGTV during a video call and ‘vanish mode’, where one can set messages to automatically disappear after they’re seen.
