Apple sent tech journalists invites for its upcoming September 7 iPhone 14 launch event on Wednesday. The invite, which comes with the “Far out” tag-line is for its latest product launch, with the company likely to announce more details about its upcoming iPhones and Apple Watches.

The invitation is to an in-person event at the Steve Jobs Theatre at Apple’s Cupertino campus. This is the first big product launch the company will be using the theatre for since the pandemic first began in 2020. The September 7 event is also being streamed online. This mark’s Apple’s second in-person event this year, the first being the company’s trademark Worldwide Developer’s Conference.

The iPhone 14 lineup is likely to be the star attraction. According to The Verge, there are rumours that the Cupertino-based company will introduce two variants: a 6.1-inch iPhone 14; a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 along with two pro variants, a 6.1inch iPhone Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max.

For a while now, Apple fans have been complaining about the ‘notch’, a black bar on top of the iPhone screen. There have been rumours that Apple is going to go ahead and remove the notch in favour of a small, hole punch selfie camera with a pill-shaped cutout for the Face ID scanner. But perhaps the biggest change that fans can expect is the lock screen widgets, a feature that Android users have had for a while.

On the hardware side of things, fans are anticipating a dedicated astrophotography mode from Apple’s camera, which is often touted as the best in the mobile phone industry. As for the chip inside, it might turn out that only Pro models receive the A16 chip from the A-series chipset.

Apple might also reveal the three new Watches at the iPhone 14 launch event as well. There are rumours that the 8 Series will look much like the 7 Series but will come with an added body temperature sensor.
