If media reports are to be believed, tech giant Apple is planning a new model of its Mac Mini. The new model will be replacing the pro-focused Intel-based model it still sells. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a %u201Chigh-end, M1X Mac Mini%u201D is expected %u201Cin the next several months.%u201D

The new Mac Mini will have “an updated design and more ports than the current model.%u201D

Last year, Apple released a Mac Mini with its own M1 processor. Since the model was intended as a replacement for the entry-level machines, it had fewer ports than the 2018 device.

The M1 Mini has two fewer Thunderbolt ports. One port can be used for an external display and the other one can be attached to HDMI.

As per reports, %u201CM1X%u201D would use the same generation CPU cores as the M1. However, it will be having more CPU and GPU cores across a larger chip. In hindsight, this was Apple’s original approach when they designed the %u201CX%u201D processors.

The current M1 Mac Mini has its limitations for pro use because it has not been changed since 2010.

The company is also expected to launch a couple of new products during its fall events. The new Mac mini is expected to be feature an M1X Apple Silicon chip and will eliminate the Intel model. This elimination will mean that the Mac mini line will see a full revamp.

When Mac mini was introduced, it’s use as a server and in certain cases like video editing and software development, forced Apple keep the Intel variant available for purchase for a while longer.

And due to the revamp, it is believed that the Intel version may only be around for the “next several months.”

The new Mac mini will have a thinner profile and is expected to come with a plexi-glass top panel with aluminum sides. In the back, the leaks showed that the device will have four USB 4-Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A connections, Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI. It also featured a magnetic circular power connector.
