The Indian government has banned the popular game PlayersUnknown Battlegrounds and 118 other mobile applications, news agency ANI reported.

In its statement, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, said that the 118 mobile apps were prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India.

The ministry said it had received many complaints from various sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India”.

In July this year, India had banned 59 ‘malicious’ apps which included TikTok, UC Browser, SHAREit and WeChat, citing that they were prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and security of the country. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had applauded India’s decision saying that the move will boost India’s “integrity and national security”
