APJ Abdul Kalam hailed from a small town, Rameswaram, of the south-eastern state of Tamil Nadu, but his legacy spread all across the world. Born on October 15, 1931, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam served as the 11th President of India, and is fondly remembered as a “people’s president”.
