The Chicago-based John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur
Foundation announced this year’s list of fellows through their official website
on Tuesday. The 25 “genius grants” belong to fields as filmmaking, history, computational
virology and adaptive technology design.

The fellowship is worth $625,000 and will be paid out in
five equal annual installments.

The foundation states that “the fellowship is not a
reward for past accomplishment, but rather an investment in a person’s
originality, insight and potential.”

The 2021 list comprises of 13 men and 12 women. The
current MacArthur Fellows Program class is as follows:
