As a new
development, ByteDance, the China-based company that owns TikTok, is in talk
with India’s Reliance Jio for backing the video-sharing app’s business in the country. It is an
attempt to save TikTok’s future in India, reported IANS.

As per reports, the two companies began its conversations last month and is yet to reach a
conclusion.

TikTok, along
with 58 other Chinese apps, was banned on June 29 in India amid the mounting tensions between the two countries over face-off between both countries’ borders in eastern Ladakh. The Indian government banned apps citing security issues.

It came as a big blow to TikTok as India was its one of the
largest markets outside China.

As the future of
the app stands at stake, several employees of ByteDance started to seek
opportunities outside the company even after the CEO of TikTok, Kevin Mayer who
is also the COO of ByteDance, stressed that the well-being of the employees is
the topmost priority and that it will be taken care of, reported IANS.

ByteDance has
nearly 2,000 employees in India.

In a similar move, US President Donald Trump had also released an executive
order on August 6 that said it would ban TikTok from functioning in the country in
45 days, unless their Chinese-owned company doesn’t move out and handover the video-sharing app to other company of the United States. This has added more apprehensions from the part of the company in how
to proceed with its business.

There is also a report by the
Financial Times where is stated that Microsoft is in plans to acquire TikTok’s
global business including in India and Europe.

Presently, TikTok users have found
their alternative in Instagram Reels, a 15-seconds multi-clip video maker, launched by Facebook.
