Twitter has been the talk of the town for quite some time now, thanks to the dramatic acquisition by Tesla CEO and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk. The social media platform has been taking a number of steps to modify itself since Musk took charge, and the latest addition is set to be the “Official” badge, which will be given to select accounts only.
The announcement was made by Twitter’s early-stage products’ executive, Esther Crawford, who explained how the new Official badge is set to work: “Not all previously verified accounts will get the “Official” label and the label is not available for purchase. Accounts that will receive it include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures”.

According to Crawford, “A lot of folks have asked about how you’ll be able to distinguish between @TwitterBlue subscribers with blue checkmarks and accounts that are verified as official”, and that was the reason behind the company’s decision to introduce the new Official badge.
Crawford has also shared a template about how the Official badge might look on an account once the feature has been rolled out. Check it out right here:
Crawford said that Twitter Blue users will not be getting the official badge since “The new Twitter Blue does not include ID verification – it’s an opt-in, paid subscription that offers a blue checkmark and access to select features. We’ll continue to experiment with ways to differentiate between account types.”
Elon Musk’s plan of charging $8 per month for Twitter Blue has met with mixed responses from public figures and regular users. A number of users, including comedian Kathy Griffin, chose to mock Musk by changing their names and profile pictures on the platform to those of the billionaire. This, in turn, resulted in some accounts getting suspended.
