The new iPhone 14 Pro models were announced at Apple’s Far Out event on Wednesday. Among the many new features, Apple revealed that the new iPhone 14 Pro will come with a ‘Dynamic Island’ feature.

The notch on top of the display is gone.

The notifications will split into a little zone called Dynamic Island, which is interactive, showing connection status etc near the camera cutout on iPhone 14 Pro.

It will expand and shrink according to usage and notification, alerting about calls, charging, messages and more. It can even split between two apps if they’re running in the background.

The Music app will be able to morph into the Dynamic Island bar, and even expand into controls in specific apps, like the Phone Maps app.

Tim Cook said that iPhone 14 Pro is the “most innovative Pro lineup yet.” It will be available in four colors: new Space Black, Silver, Gold, and Deep Purple.

The Pro models will have a brighter display with always-on functionality and the A16 Bionic chip, among many other features.

Another major upgrade for the Pro models are the cameras as the main one now has quad-pixel sensor with a 48-megapixel resolution, a 65% larger sensor than the one on the iPhone 13 Pro.

The ultra-wide and telephoto cameras have also been upgraded, though they only go to 12 megapixels. And the new Photonic Engine, the same one in the iPhone 14, further improves low-light quality.

Another feature for both the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro models is Emergency SOS via Satellite, which will give the iPhone some connectivity in areas where there are no cell towers.

The 14 Pro starts at $999, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at $1,099. It can be pre-ordered on Sept. 9 and will be available on Sept.16.
