Telangana extends lockdown for 10 more days amid COVID-19 surge

The Telangana government on Sunday announced the extension of coronavirus-induced lockdown by 10 more days. The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting that was held to review the COVID-19 situation in the state. This is the second time that lockdown has been extended in Telangana since its imposition on May 12.
Taking to Twitter, KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, said that the daily relaxation has been extended from 6 am to 1 pm. The earlier lockdown was implemented with a four-hour daily relaxation.
"Cabinet meeting has resolved to continue Telangana lockdown for another 10 days and daily relaxation has been extended from 6 am to 1 pm," the minister wrote.
He added, "Cabinet has decided that students going overseas for higher education will be given vaccination on priority so they can travel safely."

The state government earlier extended the original lockdown to May 18.
Telangana on Saturday reported 3,527 new COVID-19 cases, taking the active caseload to 37,793, as per the state health department. The state also recorded 19 deaths and 3,982 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is at 93% as the recovered cases have outnumbered new infections.
