Telangana lockdown latest update: Is there an extension of lockdown?
As India continues to fight the raging COVID-19 pandemic, the state of Telangana is due to meet on Sunday to decide if the pre-existing lockdown must be extended or not. The previous lockdown, which came into effect on May 12 was extended till May 30 of the same month. The existing lockdown also has a four-hour relaxation time.
Currently, many Indian states are under lockdown in order to prevent the rise in COVID-19 cases amid a supposed low availability of the coronavirus vaccines. The chief ministers are also exercising their power and extending the lockdown in their respective states.
Telangana, on Saturday, reported 2,982 COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to over 5.74 lakh. In their health bulletin, the state reported recoveries more than fresh cases, with 3,837 people testing negative, taking the total to 5,33,862; active cases stood at 36,917. The case fatality rate was recorded at 0.56% and the recovery rate was at 93%.
India, on Saturday, recorded 165,553 new COVID-19 cases, taking its toll to 27,894,800. As many as 3,460 patients died in the past 24 hours, pushing the toll to 325,972. Currently, there are 2,114,508 active cases in the country.
