The Crown: Who will take over as Princess Diana in Season 5?
- Season 5 of The Crown will see some changes in its cast
- The character of Princess Diana will now be played by Elizabeth Debicki
- Elizabeth described Princess Diana as a “magical person”
The upcoming season of The Crown will see some changes in its cast. Apart from Olivia Colman being replaced by Imelda Staunton in season 5 and 6 as Queen Elizabeth ll, the character of Princess Diana will now be played by Elizabeth Debicki replacing Emma Corrin, the Golden Globe Award winner who played Princess Diana in season 4 of The Crown.
“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” said the Australian actress in an interview with Gotham magazine. Elizabeth described Princess Diana as a “magical person”.
“She’s like a symbol like a – magical person. I’m coming to understand more intimately how she existed and still exists very profoundly in collective consciousness,” Elizabeth was quoted as saying.
“I think it’s amazing that from age 7, I would remember somebody who had no actual impact on my life as a child in Australia and yet I was very aware of her presence in the world. I remember seeing her face on magazines. My mother was very aware of her, as I think a lot of women close to her age were. She really followed her quite intimately because she represented something extremely human and extremely symbolic,” added Elizabeth.
The Great Gatsby actor will take on the role of Princess Diana in seasons 5 and 6, as confirmed by the official Twitter handle of The Crown, “Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana in the final two seasons of The Crown (Seasons 5 and 6).”
Elizabeth Debicki is certainly not a new face, as we have seen her exceptional work as Jed Marshall in the BBC drama The Night Manager. Elizabeth was also featured in Steve McQueen’s film Widows, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and Christopher Nolan's action thriller, Tenet.
