Three people were arrested and a major revival bid of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba was thwarted on Monday said  SSP Rashmi Wazir of Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir according to an ANI report. Speaking to ANI, Wazir said, the three arrested were in contact with Inter-Services Intelligence(ISI) handler Mohammed Kasim, who exfiltrated 18 years ago. She added an FIR had been filed against Kasim and an SIT would be formed.

Wazir added, among the three arrested, were a government employee, a labourer, and a shopkeeper. The police also verified the bank accounts of the arrested and detected “benami transactions.”

Wazir also informed that more arrests would be carried out on the issue, as per ANI. She added, “The arrested were trying to lure family members of former terrorists.”

Addressing the case of ISI handler Mohammed Kasim, SSP Wazir said “The ISI handler wanted to use the arrested as guides and for logistic support in cases of infiltration.”

She added that there were around 11 suspects in the case, which included a woman from Jammu who admitted to having met ISI handler Kasim in Pakistan and taking money from him, reported ANI.

Earlier in the day, as many as six civilians were injured in a grenade attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla area as per ANI report. Terrorists had thrown a grenade aiming an Indian Army vehicle but it landed on the road.

On August 29, Atul Goel, DIG of South Kashmir had said that about 80 terrorists were recruited in South Kashmir in 2020.

Officials have been trying to neutralize terrorist threats in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and have killed several terrorists in August.
