Oklahoma will formally unveil a statue to honour the legendary Selmon brothers during the 2022 football season. The plans were announced on September 17 during reunion activities marking the 50th anniversary of the 1971 ‘Game of the Century’ between Oklahoma and Nebraska. Oklahoma won 23-16 as the former arch rivals met Saturday for the first time since 2010. The statue, which is currently being sculpted, will stand at the corner of Jenkins Avenue and Brooks Street, according to Sports Illustrated. Lucious II (born March 15, 1951) made All-America in 1973. Dewey Willis (born November 19, 1953), and Lee Roy (born October 20, 1954) were All-American selections in 1974 and 1975 during Oklahoma’s back-to-back national championships.

Lucious was the first to join the Sooners in 1970, recruited by former University of Oklahoma assistant coach Larry Lacewell out of Eufaula High School. He was followed by Dewey Willis and Lee Roy in 1972. The brothers would dominate opposing offenses while playing football at the University of Oklahoma. Lee Roy won the Vince Lombardi and Outland trophies in 1975 and was the first draft pick of the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
