Raipur, Feb 3 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a memorial here that will house an eternal flame on the lines of the 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' as a tribute to soldiers and security personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.Gandhi laid the foundation stone of the memorial that will house the 'Chhattisgarh Amar Jawan Jyoti' at a function here, days after the 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' at India Gate in Delhi was merged with the National War Memorial (NWM), drawing criticism from Opposition leaders, including Gandhi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.The Chhattisgarh chief minister had said that the removal of the Amar Jawan Jyoti from India Gate had pained him.The eternal flame will be lit on the premises of the 'Chaithi Vahini Chhattisgarh Armed Forces' at Mana here as a mark of tribute to soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the country, state government officials said.The 'Chhattisgarh Amar Jawan Jyoti' complex will have a brown marble wall with names of soldiers inscribed on it, a memorial tower and also a VVIP platform, they said.The crescent-shaped wall will be about 25-feet high with a length of about 100 feet and a thickness of three feet. In front of the crescent-shaped wall, a memorial tower will be built using sandstone, brown-white marble and granite with a memento on top.A rifle and helmet in the form of insignia will be placed at the base in front of the memorial tower.Chhattisgarh Amar Jawan Jyoti will be lit in front of this symbol which will remain ignited 24 hours through fuel supply through underground pipelines, an official said, adding that the two-storey building will be constructed just in front of the memorial tower.During his day-long visit to Chhattisgarh, Gandhi also launched two state government schemes -- the 'Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Bhumiheen Krishi Mazdoor Nyay Yojana' and the 'Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club' at a programme at the Science College, Raipur.

He said a golden history is made by doing great deeds. Gehlot said the move of extinguishing the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate and merging the two is beyond everyone's comprehension. If two different flames kept burning in honour of the martyrs, then what was the problem for the Modi government? It is an insult to martyrdom to extinguish the Amar Jawan Jyoti, which has been paying homage to the martyrs for 50 years, Gehlot tweeted. Doing such misdeeds is an attempt to change history, but the Modi government should understand that such efforts do not change history, but a golden history has to be made by doing great deeds, he said. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri noted that India Gate is a monument to Indian soldiers who had sacrificed their lives in the first World War, and Amar Jawan Jyoti was lit there to commemorate the sacrifice of soldiers in the 1971 victory over Pakistan as there was no war memorial then. It is logical that those Indian soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice, including in colonial times, should be commemorated at a unified war memorial, which was not built by the Congress when it was in power and was raised by the Modi government. There should not be a controversy over it at all. Rahul Gandhi is not aware of basic historical facts, Puri said. The Congress leader has tried to create an unnecessary controversy, he said. Attacking the government, Gandhi said some people cannot understand patriotism and sacrifice, and added that the Congress will light the Amar Jawan Jyoti once again. Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate was merged with the eternal flame at the National War Memorial (NWM) here on Friday. The Amar Jawan Jyoti will be put out and people can now pay their respects at the eternal flame at the NWM, military officials said.

New Delhi, Jan 21 (PTI) The Delhi Traffic Police on Friday issued an advisory on the arrangements and restrictions in place for the smooth conduct of full dress rehearsal on January 23 for the Republic Day parade.The parade rehearsal will start at 9.50 am on Monday from Vijay Chowk and proceed to National Stadium, they said.The parade will start from Vijay Chowk and enter National Stadium from gate number 1 via Rajpath, Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate, round about Princess Palace, turn left towards Tilak Marg and turn right on C-Hexagon.In order to facilitate smooth passage of the parade, no traffic will be allowed on Rajpath from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 6 pm on Saturday till the parade is over on Sunday.No cross traffic on Rajpath from 11 pm on Saturday at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road till Parade is over. ‘C’-Hexagon-India Gate will be closed for traffic from 9.15 am on Sunday till the entire parade and tableaux enter National Stadium, Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) Vivek Kishor said.The commuters are advised to avoid the route of parade from 9 am to 12.30 pm, it said.Though there will be no restriction for people from north Delhi going towards the New Delhi Railway Station or Old Delhi Railway Station yet, it is advised that they plan their journey in advance and take sufficient extra time to reach their destination to avoid possible delay, according to the advisory.The movement of the city bus services will be curtailed at Park Street/Udyan Marg, Aram Bagh Road (Paharganj), round about Kamla Market, Delhi Secretariate (IG Stadium), Pragati Maidan (Bhairon Road), Hanuman Mandir (Yamuna Bazar), Mori Gate, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, ISBT Sarai Kale Khan and Tis Hazari Court, the advisory said.Buses from Ghaziabad bound for Shivaji Stadium shall take NH-24, Ring Road and terminate at Bhairon Road. Buses coming from NH-24 shall take right turn on Road No 56 and terminate at ISBT Anand Vihar, it said.Buses coming from Ghaziabad side will be diverted at Mohan Nagar towards Bhopra Chungi for Wazirabad Bridge. All inter-state buses coming from Dhaula Kuan side shall terminate at Dhaula Kuan, the advisory stated.Metro Rail services will remain available for commuters at all stations during the full dress rehearsal ceremony. However, boarding and de-boarding will not be allowed at Kendriya Sachivalaya and Udyog Bhawan from 5 am till noon on Saturday, it said.Flying of sub conventional aerial platforms like para-gliders, para motors, hang gliders, UAVs, UASs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons, small size powered aircrafts, quadcopters or para jumping from aircraft, are prohibited over the jurisdiction of National Capital Territory of Delhi from 20.01.2022 up to 15.02.2022 (both days inclusive), the advisory said.Motorists are requested to observe traffic rules and follow directions of traffic personnel deployed at all intersections. People are requested to plan their journey in advance and keep sufficient time in hand to avoid inconvenience, it added.

New Delhi, Jan 21 (PTI) The Congress on Friday accused the BJP government of removing history by extinguishing the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate here and merging it with the immortal flame at the National War Memorial.Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi hit out, saying some people cannot understand patriotism and sacrifice, and added that the Congress will light the Amar Jawan Jyoti once again.It is a matter of great sadness that the immortal flame for our brave soldiers will be extinguished today.Some people cannot understand patriotism and sacrifice - never mind...We will once again light the 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' for our soldiers, Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
