Those who tuned in to Tuesday’s edition of America’s Got Talent on June 14 may have noticed a minor change during the Auditions.

Howie Mandel was missing from his judging panel place next to Heidi Klum after Oleksandr Yenivatov’s incredibly scary contortionist audition. Mandel did not return for the rest of the show. But, before you start freaking out, there’s a simple explanation.

Host Terry Crews addressed why we wouldn’t see the comic and explained a little adjustment in the show’s regulations right before Urbancrew took the stage with their gravity-defying routine.

The first thing to mention is that Howie is not going anywhere with the show in the long run. He wasn’t feeling well at the time of this tape at the end of the show, but Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara stepped in to help him finish what he started. There were only three judges for a small number of acts, but it all worked out in the end. (Keep in mind that these auditions were taped some weeks ago, so his absence isn’t a true reflection of how he feels right now.)

In terms of the panel, there have been a handful of differences this season of AGT in general. Consider what Simon Cowell has been sporting on his wrist. He was injured in a bike accident and wore the scar for the duration of the tryouts.

However, it’s always a little awkward when there isn’t a full panel of judges present, primarily due to chemistry. Howie is also the group’s seasoned veteran, having been on the panel for the longest time. He knows how the programme works inside and out, and he’s probably kicking himself for missing the comic act tonight.

We expect Howie to return in the following show, but don’t be surprised if he disappears for a few auditions. The show occasionally airs things out of order from when they tape, and they frequently book a large number of auditions in a short period of time.
