Jeevanjot Kaur of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the Amritsar (East) assembly constituency defeating Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Navjot Singh Sidhu by a margin of 6,750 votes.

Amritsar East constituency has Navjot Singh Sidhu of the Indian National Congress taking on Bikram Singh Majithia of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Jeevanjot Kaur of the Aam Aadmi Party and former IAS officer Jagmohan Singh Raju this year in the Punjab assembly elections.

Navjot Singh Sidhu had won the Amritsar East seat in 2017, when the Congress swept Punjab. In 2012, Amritsar East legislative assembly constituency had a total of 139095 electors.

Amritsar East assembly constituency is a Punjab Legislative assembly constituency in Amritsar district, Punjab.

In 2017, Navjot Singh Sidhu won and became MLA from this seat. He secured a total of 60477 votes. BJP candidate Rajesh Kumar Honey stood second with a total 17668 votes. He lost by 42809 votes.

The tenure of the Legislative Assembly is five years unless dissolved sooner.

The Amritsar East assembly constituency will vote in a single phase of the Punjab elections on February 20, 2022, along with 116 other constituencies.

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including neighbouring Uttarakhand.
