With the biggest global sports competition, Tokyo Olympics 2020, around the corner newly elected Sports Minister of India Anurag Thakur on Wednesday released the country’s official Olympics song ‘Cheer4India’. The union minister also urged the countrymen to wholeheartedly support India’s athletes in the Tokyo Games.

The song is composed by Oscar award-winning musician AR Rahman in collaboration with young singer Ananya Birla. The official song of the Indian contingent for the Tokyo Olympics is titled ‘Cheer4India: Hindustani Way’

“I urge all Indians to listen to the song, share it to fellow citizens and also cheer for the entire Indian contingent for the Tokyo Olympics to show that we are behind them,” Thakur said.

The sports minister also expressed gratitude to AR Rahman and Ananya for composing the song for India in such difficult situations of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The song was released virtually in the presence of MoS (Sports) Nisith Pramanik, Sports Secretary Ravi Mittal, Sports Authority of India Director General Sandip Pradhan and IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta were also present on the occasion.

The singer of the song, Ananya
Birla is an Indian young singer. She made her musical debut in 2016. Ananya has
collaborated with artists including Sean Kingston, Afrojack,
and Mood Melodies.

 Ananya is the first
Indian artist with the English language single to go platinum in India; five of
her singles have achieved platinum or double platinum status.
