At least 17 people have been injured when an out-of-control bus crashed into a building in Baltimore.

On Saturday morning in the city’s Seton Hill district, an MTA bus impacted a building that was close to an intersection.

Two of the wounds are believed to be potentially fatal.

According to Baltimore Police, the bus struck two civilian vehicles before crashing into a neighboring structure.

A Mass Transit bus collided with a Lexus then struck a Nissan, before coming to a stop in a building in the city’s Central District after 10 a.m., Baltimore police said.

“Approximately 10-15 individuals were transported to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown,” Maryland Transit Administration spokesperson Jerimiah Moerke told CNN. “Maryland Transit Administration Police continue to actively investigate the incident.

After emergency personnel arrived, the situation was upgraded to a level one mass casualty incident since 17 individuals, including the bus driver, had been hurt, according to Fox Baltimore.

While some patients needed additional care in a hospital, others were treated on the spot.

Kevin Cartwright, Director of Communications for the Baltimore City Fire Department, stated that at 8 am, reports of a collision on the 400 block of North Paca Street were received.

The building was already partially evacuated before the incident and some damage was done to the first level but the upper levels are still intact. 

Baltimore City Police, Baltimore City Fire Department, MTA Police, medics and building inspectors are on the scene. 

Police did not immediately provide any additional information. The cause of the collision was being looked into.
