Superhero series ‘Batwoman’ is set to return for a second season on January 17, announced CW network. Actor Javicia Leslie, who is known for TV shows like ‘God Friended Me’ and ‘The Family Business’ has been cast in the titular character following Ruby Rose’s departure.

The CW took to Instagram to share a poster of Leslie in her character Ryan Wilder along with the tagline “Find your power”.

According to PTI, just like Rose’s Kate Kane, Leslie’s Wilder hails from the LGBTQ community. Leslie, who is bisexual, will also be the first Black woman to play the role of ‘Batwoman.’

Wilder is described as a “former drug-runner”, who is now reformed, sober, lives in a van and “is about to become Batwoman”.

She is a woman in her mid-20s and is “nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her.”

Rose had become the first lesbian live-action superhero on TV when she took on the role, however, her announcement to quit in May came as a shock. According to some reports, she was not happy with the long hours required for the show, leading to some problems in the sets.

Rose’s character, Kane, is a cousin of Bruce Wayne, who dedicates herself to defending Gotham in his absence. While her character will not be killed in the show, she would appear to be missing from Gotham without a trace.

The show had premiered last October, but its first season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.
