Ahead of International Women’s Day, BJP MP and veteran actor Hema Malini on Sunday congratulated the women in the Himachal Pradesh police for their 50 years of “relentless service”. The 72-year-old MP, in a video message posted by the Himachal Pradesh Police on Twitter, also congratulated Sanjay Kundu, the Director General of Police, for concetualising an event on the occasion of International Women’s Day. 

She said, “I congratulate the women in HP Police for 50 years of relentless service. I also congratulate the DGP, Mr Sanjay Kundu, IPS for conceptualising this event on International Women’s Day.”

In the event, an all-women march will be taken past on the historic Ridge in the state capital (Shimla) on Monday, March 8 and Governor Bandaru Dattatreya will be the chief guest of the event. 

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday, to mark the state’s 50 years of statehood, in his budget speech said that he would start a social security pension of Rs 1,000 per month for elderly women, aged 65-69 years, irrespective of their income criteria.
