Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who appealed people around the world to help India in its fight against the deadliest second wave of coronavirus, contributed Rs 2 crore for the COVID-care facility at Rakab Ganj Gurdwara in Delhi.
“‘Sikhs are Legendary, Salute To Their Service’. These were the words of Amitabh Bachchan when he contributed Rs 2 crore to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Covid Care Facility,” tweeted Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management (DSGM) committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
The facility will open on Monday and has 300 beds. This comes as the national capital faces shortage of beds and oxygen in hospitals. The Centre has been asked by the Supreme Court to give Delhi its everyday quota of oxygen to make sur no one dies due to its shortage.
India is battling the second wave, reporting over 3.5 lakh cases everyday.
The DSGM president said that the actor also helped them arrange oxygen concentrators from abroad for the COVID centre.
The 78-year-actor was also part of the Vax Live global event, oraganised by UK’s Prince Harry. He shared the video on his Twitter handle and urged global citizens to rise and help India.
“Namaskar, this is Amitabh Bachchan. My country India is battling with the sudden surge of the second wave of Covid 19. As a global citizen I appeal to all global citizens to rise up, speak to your governments, pharmaceutical companies and ask them to donate, to give, to extend a helping hand,” said Big B.
