Sonia Gandhi will continue as the interim Congress president, the party announced on Monday after a seven-hour long meeting. In her closing remarks, Sonia said, “We are a large family, we have differences on many occasions but in the end, we come together as one. The need of the hour is to fight for the cause of the people and forces that are failing this country.” The meeting of the Congress Working Committee, the biggest decision making body of the party, was held amid an intense leadership debate which was triggered after a purported letter written by as many as 23 senior party leaders to interim president Sonia Gandhi, 73, calling for a ‘full time, visible leadership’.
