Punjabi actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu has been arrested by the Special Cell in connection with the violence that occurred during the tractor rally on January 26, the Delhi Police confirmed on Tuesday, news agency ANI reported.  

Earlier, the Delhi Police had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 each for information leading to the arrest of Sidhu and three other protestors, accused of instigating crowds during the rally. 

Violence broke out on Republic Day as a large number of protestors broke off from the initially agreed-upon route of the tractor rally and clashed with police in the national capital.

A group of protestors stormed the Red Fort and hoisted religious flags from its ramparts. Sidhu is accused of having led the crowd to the Red Fort. 

According to Delhi Police sources quoted by ANI, Sidhu was in contact with a woman friend and actor from California, United States. He used to make videos and send it to her, who would then upload them to his Facebook account.

He was arrested from the Zirakpur area between Chandigarh and Ambala.
