DMX, a renowned American rapper, was taken to the hospital after reportedly experiencing a drug overdosage that turned into a heart attack, according to media reports.

The 50-year-old, who has previously battled with drug addiction and was also admitted into a rehabilitation facility in 2019, was in his New York residence around 11 pm, when the incident happened.

TMZ reports that the artist was “showing some brain activity” while being rushed to the hospital. He was taken to the White Plains Hospital in New York. 

Various personalities from the American music fraternity have been pouring in support and wishes for the artist on Twitter and Instagram. Artists like Ja Rule, Missy Elliot, Ebro have tweeted wishing DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, a quick recovery. 

The 50-year-old has previously opened up about his struggle with drug addiction and substance on many instances and admitted that the fight has prolonged almost all his life and started at the age of 14, when a mentor deceived him into trying crack.

In a 2013 interview on the television series ‘Iyanla: Fix My Life’, the artist said, “I don’t care about what people are concerned with… If I drop dead right now, I will have fulfilled the purpose that God had me do”, reported Entertainment Tonight.
