A doctor and his wife were shot dead in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur on Friday by two bike-borne assailants while they were travelling in their car, according to media reports. The incident happened at 5 am on Friday and was captured on CCTV cameras, the Indian Express reported.

The two bike-borne assailants have been identified as the brother and cousin of the woman, who was murdered in 2019, and the couple was charged in the murder case, media reports said quoting police.

“We have identified the accused. Investigation revealed that one of the accused is brother of the 2019 incident’s victim, who was murdered. Search underway,” police said, ANI reported.

Bharatpur’s inspector general of police Prasanna Kumar Khamesra said the assailants killed the couple to avenge the murder of Deepa Gurjar, media reports said.

The accused have been identified as Anuj and Mahesh Gurjar.

The doctor couple, who used to run a private hospital and were out on bail, was shot five times and died on spot, media reports said quoting the police.

The couple, Sudip Gupta (46) and his wife Seema Gupta (44) who is also a doctor, were in jail till last year in the murder case of a woman with “whom the doctor allegedly had a… relationship,” SHO of Atal Bandh police station, Rajendra Kumar said, the Indian Express quoted.

Sudip allegedly had an affair with Deepa Gurjar, who was murdered in 2019 and he, along with his wife Seema and mother, were charged in the case.
