England ODI captain Eoin Morgan has broken a long-standing record created by India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni. During the third ODI against Ireland at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, Morgan broke Dhoni’s record of hitting most sixes as a captain. However, the English skipper achieved the milestone in far less number of matches than Dhoni.

Dhoni has 211 sixes as captain in 332 matches and Morgan went ahead of him in just 163 matches while leading his side. As far as total international sixes are concerned Dhoni (359) is still way ahead of Morgan who has 328 long hits to his name.

Third on the list is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting with 171 sixes, while retired swashbuckling New Zealand keeper-batsman Brendon McCullum has 170.

However, Morgan’s brilliant knock of 106 off just 84 balls, which included five big sixes, was not enough to secure a win for England in the final match of the series as Ireland chased down the 328-run target. Ireland opener Paul Stirling (142) and captain Andrew Balbirnie (113) hit classy centuries to deny England a 3-0 win in the series.
