After going down to 10 men within the first quarter of the game, Newcastle United failed to capitalise on their first-half lead and Norwich striker Teemu Pukki equalised in the 79th minute in a 1-1 draw between the teams that started on Tuesday as the bottom two on the points table. Newcastle remain the only team in the league yet to register a victory.

Newcastle had to play with ten men from the ninth minute after Ciaran Clark was sent off for tugging back Pukki, but the squad that just came under Saudi ownership still managed to grab a momentary lead.

After Norwich midfielder Billy Gilmour’s raised hand blocked a header from Federico Fernández that was heading toward the goal and a VAR check awarded a penalty, Callum Wilson put Newcastle ahead converting the spot-kick in the 61st despite goalkeeper Tim Krul getting a hand to it.

However, Newcastle’s joy was short-lived as Norwich soon neutralised the deficit. Pukki earned Norwich a point by volleying home from Dimitris Giannoulis’ cross after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka only palmed away a deep cross into the area.
