Manchester United fans’ protests against the club’s
ownership by the Glazers family in recent weeks reached a boiling point on Sunday, as fans invaded the Old Trafford – the home ground – pitch with calls of ‘Glazers Out!’ pervading the air ahead of their Sunday fixture against arch rivals Liverpool.

Several of the protesting fans also stopped the departure of the team
bus from Lowry hotel, where the United squad are currently based, as per a report from
The Athletic.

The pitch, however, has not been cleared yet with the initial 4:30 pm local time (9:00 pm
IST) kick-off time delayed.

The fans, in recent weeks, have been vocal about the removal of
Glazers family as the owners of the club, particularly after their involvement in the proposed European Super League (ESL), the breakaway league
established by 12 major clubs in Europe.

A recent emergency fans’ meeting, where United supporters read out a statement
about the situation at hand, noted that the fans had “zero trust” in the
owners, and asked the club to “willingly and openly engage and promote the
government initiated fan-led review of football”, as quoted by The Athletic.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer noted ahead of the
match on Sunday that it was necessary to ‘listen to fans’ views’.

The protests started escalating after the club’s Football
Director Ed Woodward quit his position on April 20, largely due to the fallout of
the ESL-debacle.
